TREATY 7
A treaty is a formal agreement between soverign nations in reference to peace, alliance, or international relations. We are ll in this part of Canada right now because of Treaty 7.
Treaty 7 is the founding document of southern Alberta; it is fundamentally why we are the way we are. It was signed in 1877 between Canada (on behalf of the British Crown), Siksika, Kainai, Piikanai, Nakoda, and Tsuut'ina Nations.
It is a living document affecting all our lives every single day. Our political, economic, legal, tourism, environmental, industrial, health, educational, and intercultural systems would not be quite as we know them without Treaty 7. It is good to remember this, and this is no the whole story.
